Phase-only modulation of a twisted nematic liquid-crystal TV by the use of eigen polarizations (download PDF)

J.L. Pezzaniti and R.A. Chipman, Optics Letters, vol 18, no. 18, pp. 1567-1569 (Sept. 15, 1993).

Mueller matrix measurements of liquid-crystal TVs as a function of voltage show how the eigenpolarizations vary as a function of voltage.  For a particular elliptical polarization state phase-only modulation is maximized with a minimum of amplitude modulation.
